By Madeline Miller

OVERVIEW
Galatea was created only to please her husband. Obediently and unconditionally. Sculpted from marble and bought to life, she was a masterpiece. Her controlling and obsessive husband has her locked away under the supervision of nurses and doctors with no sympathy for her situation.
With her beautiful daughter left defenceless against her husband, Galatea fight to escape and save her, no matter what the cost…

MY THOUGHTS
This is the perfect book to break a reading slump. Despite being only 50 pages long, Madeline Miller manages to create an engaging character in Galatea and you can’t help but feel for her. Galatea’s very creation emphasises the opinion that a woman’s worth is only based on her appearance, sexual prowess and childbearing abilities, that they are put on earth to marry, produce children, and objects made to please their husbands.
The ending of this story shows women to be far more. We are strong, courageous, complex and loving.
